What’s Blacktown like to live in?

Main Post:

Is Blacktown an OK place to live?

It has a much higher crime rate than NSW generally, but most of those crimes are “transport regulation offences” according to RedSuburbs.

Does anyone have any lived experience of living in Blacktown? What’s it like?

Have lived in a Blacktown council area for about 15 years. Have lived in Blacktown proper for the last couple. Had my car stolen from once because I left it unlocked. Once had a sketchy dude try and sell me a gold chain in a back alley that I was walking through. That’s literally the extent of the nastiness.

Unbeatable food places in Western Sydney (Parramatta, Blacktown, Hills, Penrith)?

Main Post:

We have a diverse food culture in the west, but maybe not as much options as compared to CBD and surrounds. Any recommendations on where to find the best place for a certain food?

My take:

  • Fish and chips: Hills Ocean Foods, Northmead
  • Charcoal chicken: El Jannah, Blacktown
  • Ramen: Mikazuki, Parramatta
  • Vietnamese: Pho Pasteur, Parra/Blacktown
  • Fried chicken:Broaster Chicken, Blacktown/Penrith
  • Buffet: Star buffet, Penrith (balance of value and quality)

Happy to hear recommendations especially for Indian, Filo, Thai, Chinese food (a LOT of places here but specific resto please), croissant, cakes, meat pie. Keen on going on a food trip!

There’s an El Jannah’s opening in Baulkham Hills. I’m super excited as I’m too lazy to drive to Blacktown.

Blacktown council are fucking idiots.

Main Post:

So,an entire section of a new housing estate flooded near marsden park.

And they just today approved an extension, that will push the now approved 140 new homes 120 metres CLOSER to the river that just broke it's banks.

Fuck me,what morons

Sydney is fucking cooked, why are we approving builds in the fucking flood plains,it's just blatant idiocy

18 Year Old Stabbed in Blacktown

Honestly, they need to get their shit together. There's domestics happening at Blacktown station and Westpoint every bloody day. I'm sick of hearing crack heads arguing when I'm just trying to get my bloody train.

What's it like living in Blacktown?

Main Post:

I'm moving there in a few months and I don't know what to expect.

Top Comment:

Moved here a few years ago after returning from interstate. Grew up in Syd during 90s, 00s so was quite familiar with the reputation. Expectations were low.

Pleasantly surprised with the growth of this area for young families. Definitely noticeable with the increased parkland and nature projects. Diverse food. Station area is mainly harmless but does attract the local 711 crew and bible preachers. Still needs to smooth out some rough patches and increase infrastructure particularly around schools. I've never seen school pickups quite like it is here. Avoid if you can.

Also, the 24hr Kmart. Blacktown pride and joy. Have you ever needed a toaster at 2am on a weekday? Me neither but I know where to go if I do!

Is Blacktown really a dangerous place?

Main Post:

I have to pop into Blacktown in the next few weeks for business and I am rather concerned for my safety and well-being. Is it worth making the trip? Primarily I will be getting there by train, however, I have heard that there are loiterers and troublemaking teens around the station. Also do I have to be on alert when walking to not get stabbed/robbed or something? On the flip side I have seen people say that Blacktown is a safe place and that police regularly patrol the streets or something but I don't know. If any of you actually live in Blacktown can you provide any input?

EDIT: I have to say, some of the responses here do help a bit, but a lot of people seem really rude and poke fun at me for asking this question. All I have to say here is; if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

Is Rooty Hill and Blacktown a good suburb to live in now?

Main Post:

Hi all, would you consider living or buying a home in Blacktown or Rooty Hill?

Back then there used to be lots of reports of shootings , muggings in those areas.

Nowadays , many new suburbs and housing estates have popped up near them now. It’s also not as dimly lit.

Also as far as I’m aware housing is cheaper there.

Much nicer than it was 30 years ago but if you’re expecting Vaucluse you’ll be disappointed. Blacktown LGA covers places like The Ponds all the way to places like Dharruk so obviously some key differences there. Kings Park, Kings Langley, Woodcroft etc sort of sit right in the middle, cheapish and pretty decent...
